Finding the perfect wedding shoes

Posted on October 27, 2017 | 0 comments

The countdown to the wedding season is on!! and while much time and consideration goes into planning the perfect wedding: the dress, the venue, the photo locations, the guest list, the wedding favours, one very crucial decision, that is often overlooked are the wedding shoes.

When you take time to think about it, these shoes have an important job to do: they need to walk you down the aisle, match the style of your wedding dress, pose with you in your photographs, not to mention one of the big moments of the day – the first dance. These shoes need to be perfect, be the right height, be comfortable and most importantly you must LOVE them.

A toast to the mums! Mother of the bride shoes

Posted on November 26, 2015 | 0 comments

Now as most of you brides are aware, sometimes just as much planning and preparation goes into what the mother of the bride or groom will wear, as what the bride does! It’s a momentous day for the mothers, one they feel immensely proud and excited to be involved in.  And although they know all eyes will be on the bride (deep down they often feel, one of the next females to be seen, maybe, just maybe them!!)

Hours of thinking and preparation go into this, pictures are cut out from magazines, colours are thought about and compared to wedding colour themes, styles of outfits and designers are researched and many, many outfits are tried on. All this to ensure the final choice is perfected for the big day.

Shoes are often a huge part of the Mother of the Bride attire, and Trousseau fits out a number of mothers every week and we LOVE the Mums!! Most of them come with a been there, done that attitude, they’ve been the bride before and they are excitable without the overall responsibility of a wedding.  They come to dress up and have a bit of fun.

So from us here at Trousseau, a tip for the brides – Take the time to share the ‘shoe part’ with your dear mum or mother in law, it can mean so much to them and is a really fun bonding experience for you both. Finish it off with a glass of champagne at the local bar and you’ve got the ultimate day!

Do you have a 'comfort shoe style'?

Posted on October 20, 2015 | 0 comments

Are you passionate about shoes and own so many you find it hard to store them, or do you have a couple of favourites that you wear until you are forced to replace them, most likely your shoe buying falls between these two. No matter how you feel about shoes it is our feet that often dictate what we can or can’t wear.

At Trousseau we are amazed at how a shoe can be a terrible fit on one person and yet the same style can look gorgeous on someone else. Feet can be super wide or ultra thin, they can have short or long toes, most of us have one foot slightly smaller than the other. You can have fallen arches or high arches and even the annoying bunions - each one of these traits will impact on the fit of a shoe. PLUS a surprising number of us have a personal preference for the type of shoe we like to wear most of the time, be it sneakers, high heels, boots or flats to name a few.

It’s a bit like comfort food, it seems we can have our 'comfort shoe style' as well and having to move too far away from a preferred style can be challenging.

Wedding shoes certainly challenge our 'comfort shoe style'! If you spend all day in sports shoes the thought of a 10cm high heel on a wedding shoe will usually send shivers down the spine. Dedicated boot wearers may even stick to their ‘comfort style’ on the wedding day.

Comfort is as important as style or a 'LOOK' for a wedding shoe. At Trousseau we love the current wedding and special occasion ranges. The styles are on trend for what our brides are looking for but the shoes have the important ‘point of difference’ to ensure they complement a wedding dress.  Most importantly the range has embraced so many of our customers own 'comfort shoe styles' in, look, heel height, colour and shape. No matter the shape or size of your feet, or what your personal style is we hope there will be the right shoe for you in this range.

Personal shoe style and your very own unique feet matter as much as the style of the wedding dress, enjoy discovering the perfect pair of shoes for your wedding day.

The Beach Bride

Posted on February 05, 2015 | 0 comments

The beach wedding is a popular choice for many couples, the idyllic setting, never ending sunshine and lapping waves make it hard to resist! There is also the added bonus of it often being a slightly less stressful planning period, which will always be appealing! Trousseau is seeing an increasing number of beach brides - especially those that are jet setting off to tropical locations during the NZ winter time.

There is no right or wrong way to do the beach wedding...when it comes to getting married on the beach, the couple can dictate the style, theme and level of formality depending on their own taste, and this can vary greatly. The increased number of beach brides we were seeing, led us to conduct some informal research to ensure we were as knowledgeable as possible for these brides. Some of our findings really surprised us, for example where we thought the idea of strolling though the water barefoot wearing an informal dress would be the idea that would dominate, instead the majority of those we spoke to were still opting to wear a traditional styled wedding gown and shoes.

In the end it is definitely a personal choice  – a beach wedding can allow you to do it nice and simple, by heading to the beach with  wedding jandals, barefoot, or some brides love the option of dressing up their feet up with a beautiful  barefoot sandal. Or you can go down the path we are finding many brides are going, and decide to follow your dream bridal look be it traditional, vintage or formal – they just put that look into a divine setting. As you do need to remember you will not be on the beach ALL day!

To complement our research, we have worked alongside two of New Zealand’s top wedding dress designers, Anna Schimmel and Anita Turner-Williams of Vinka Design, who are both well known for their beautiful high quality designs, fabrics and lace, for some advice on what to think about when choosing a beach wedding.

Anita Turner-Williams of Vinka Design told us “Weddings on the beach are fabulous, often set in some exotic location and seen to be a simple and romantic option to the more formal traditional setting. So to the gown, it needs to be, or to look, simple in line, soft sheer floaty fabrics are ideal as they move so beautifully and are light to wear. Matching the shoes is easy. Some brides choose flat sandals for ease, others wedge so they can walk in the sand, but I like the idea of gorgeous shoes, slipped off and walking out barefoot. Easy! and you can have fabulous photos with the shoes dangling from your fingers.

PLUS (because you won't be on the beach all day/night) the bride can slip her shoes on and dance the night away, looking amazing!

Anna Schimmel discusses that you can still have your cake and eat it too! (or dream wedding dress and shoes in any setting!)

“If you have chosen to have a romantic beach wedding you will be looking for a summery wedding dress, to float in the breeze, be forgiving of sand and possibly the few drops of water which may come your way.

High quality fabrics do surprisingly stand up well to the above brief. There is a selection of silks which will work well, while being cool and light weight. However, it may surprise you that exquisite French laces don’t mind water or a bit of sand at all. Most laces are created from an intricate, super fine fiber mix including viscose, cotton and lycra. Sheer French Chantilly’s may look like a fresh breeze come to life – but it takes a sharp heel to actually do any real damage.

The lovely Cherry from Trousseau bridal is an excellent go-to for the right shoes to go with your perfect wedding dress.  She will match your luxurious gown with a silk heel, make sure the diamante won’t catch on your lace (I’m her pet there, as I am rather protective of our laces).

The right heel for your beach wedding dress is the one to look great with your gown, make you feel fab and for any other rules ask the team at Trousseau”

CAPTURED! the prized wedding shoe shot

Posted on June 11, 2014 | 0 comments

Ask any respected and professional wedding photographer and they’ll all agree, the bridal shoes can play a very special part in the photographs and styling on the day.

Take this back to basics, and translated it means, you need to think carefully about the shoes you choose, as they will be forever a part of your memories and of course your treasured keepsake –  the wedding album.

While we at Trousseau pondered this idea, we decided to have a bit of a brain-storming session on what OUR  favourite ‘wedding shots’ featuring  wedding shoes were.  While we came up with many answers, we knew for the purposes of this blog we needed to narrow it down to FIVE...and here they are:

 - The pre-wedding styled pictures – Often featuring wedding dress, wedding shoes, jewellery and flowers.

- The bridal walk down the aisle. Left foot forward and showing a tantalising peek of wedding shoe under the gown.

 - The fun bridal party or couple shot – Often candid.  ie groom carrying bride or entire bridal party leaping for joy.

 - The first dance – The wedding shoes can really be wow factor here.

 - The bride and groom or bride and bride garter shot – Need we say anymore!

Waiheke Island based wedding photographer, Sonja Read from Sonja Read Photography agrees “As a photographer, I look forward to seeing the brides choice of shoes, often as much as her dress. The bride can take it as an opportunity to add a splash of extravagance to her outfit. Depending on the style of dress, they can be hidden and discreet or take center stage. Either way they will definitely be photographed on the day.

More importantly shoes can transform the way you feel inside and a great pair of shoes can truly make you feel 'out of this world'. These feelings mixed with others will shine throughout your photographs, it is what I like to capture.”

So whatever your wedding shoe taste, style or preference is. Make sure you think about the lasting memories these shoes will be apart of and STEP out in shoes you will feel proud showing off to your children and their children in your wedding album for years to come.
