It's all in the Detail

Posted on May 20, 2014 | 0 comments

One of the questions we get asked at least once a week is “…but does anyone even see the shoes?”

If you were wearing gumboots your guests would certainly notice!

Seriously though, although your wedding gown is the hero on the day, and is often shrouded in secrecy, all the other details that come together to make you feel extra special should take almost as much care, consideration and attention.

These beautiful photos, sent to us by our brides, show just how much the shoes, flowers, jewellery and perfume all add to your final look and what beautiful and creative things the photographers do with them.  We love receiving wedding photos and once we have admired the beautiful bride, and because we are all about the shoes, we can't wait to see the amazing shoe & flower photos and the attention the shoes receive.

So in answer to the question at the beginning of this blog … YES, we think the shoes ARE seen.

Buying Wedding Shoes Online - Our Guide

Posted on March 18, 2014 | 2 comments

Shopping online, we all do it, it has become the norm in today’s society and the majority of brides are quite comfortable purchasing online. However, shoes are always a tricky one.  BUT fear not as this blog post has been designed with this issue in mind and aims to show you how easy it is to buy wedding shoes online with Trousseau.

We have identified 5 of the biggest concerns of brides purchasing shoes online and have all the answers and information regarding these concerns.

What happens if the shoes don’t fit me?

This is the number one problem we hear about when shoes have been purchased online – and sadly we often see a second pair being purchased from us because the first pair purchased online overseas don’t fit. Rest assured, Trousseau is here in New Zealand and we provide an easy to follow set of instructions for trying on your wedding shoes.  If they don’t fit it’s easy to call us and talk over the problems so we can work out a solution or immediately send out another size. This allows you to try on the shoes with confidence, protecting both the shoes and the customer. Win/win we say.

I’m not sure the colour will work with my dress?

The majority of Trousseau’s bridal shoe collections are in Ivory or white.  These colours work well with most wedding dress fabrics. If for some reason there is a problem it’s easy to send us a piece of fabric and we can help you get the shoes dyed to an exact match.  Trousseau is happy to help as much as we can.

I am tossing up between two shoes but live far away from Trousseau’s Auckland showroom?

No problems! Trousseau is happy to send out two shoes if requested, we will refund in full the pair returned as long as it is in the same condition that we sent it.

I am wanting to dye my shoes, but don’t live in Auckland

We can easily accommodate this for you.  Once we have confirmed the shoe fits all we need is a swatch of fabric that you want the shoe colour to match.  We can liaise with our preferred shoe dyer on your behalf.

HELP, I need wedding shoes but just don't know where to begin

We love talking and emailing with brides who need a little help and guidance with their purchase. We can work with you every step of the way to make sure you are 100% happy with the final decision.

Even if you are not sure if you want a strappy sandal or closed toe boot, we can discuss the options and decide on the best shoe for you.

Trousseau prides itself on operating a very successful online store (it’s not unheard of to be arranging special couriers to get a pair of shoes out to a bride in desperate need!!) distributing shoes around New Zealand and Australia.

If you were contemplating buying online, but were a little bit apprehensive about it, we hope this post has helped a little.  Also please call us as we do as many online sales via the phone as we do on the website. We find that personal conversation can make an enormous difference. We thought we would finish up with a few quotes from our customers:

“Thanks so much for organising my wedding shoes for me. They arrived in the post in plenty of time for my dress fitting. They also look great. I think the size is perfect. ... I really appreciate your effort. I have even given your details to another friend of mine who is getting married soon.”

“I have received my shoes.... thank you very much, they are the perfect fit and were the shoes that I had been desperately trying to find in my size. Thank you very much for your prompt responses they were much appreciated...”

“I just wanted to say thank you for the awesome shoes. I was really impressed by the quick and efficient service. They are exactly what I was looking for and they look great. I will be recommending you to all my friends. Thanks once again.”

A touch of gold

Posted on December 10, 2013 | 0 comments

A touch of gold was inspired by our beautiful Preston Shoe, it’s a fave of ours, fits brilliantly, looks divine and will suit many different wedding themes and situations. It truly is a shoe that can take you from wedding night, through to the next day (picture teamed with this gorgeous Juliette Hogan Dress!) and beyond.

We wanted to take the gold accents of the Preston and evolve them to the next level with this theme, all without being too ‘in your face’. We spoke to renowned New Zealand dress designer Anita Turner-Williams from Vinka Design about the type of dress that would work with these shoes – after browsing through many fabulous and suitable creations we all unanimously agreed on the Larissa, a gorgeous beaded flower lace gown with silk chiffon skirt. The colour tones in this dress, pick up beautifully the golden tones in the shoes and the back on this dress is to die for. Thanks to the talented Zahn Trotter from Perry Trotter Photography for this shot.

With a theme including gold, you had to feature a cake that was impressive as well as a work of art, after many websites were perused, the lovely Paula Jane Cakes came out on top again – we love you guys!

We wanted a really punchy bridesmaid dress, this shimmery number from Modes will delight the bridesmaids, as standalone it is a ‘wow’ dress for the wedding day, but it is also versatile enough for the girls to wear again to any formal occasion. Just what every bride wants for their gals!

Bunting, bunting, bunting...everyone knows bunting is the latest buzz word in wedding circles, Trousseau has introduced a selection of one off designs that will really make a statement! Carrying on our secondary theme of future use, one bride summed this up for us perfectly... “I can already see this in the nursery”

When you are on the lookout for wedding invites, we know that Times New Roman can start to look like Comic Sans, but rest assured the team at Freedom Wedding Stationary take the hard work out of it. These super cool invites, can really be tailored to suit you and your fiancé. Taking words from your favourite poem song or even wedding vows to create a unique invite – LOVE MUCH!? We do.

Finally, we stumbled upon our pièce de résistance One Lovely Day whilst doing our research on this theme, an event styling company that has worked their magic on some very special weddings. They are original and sure can think outside the box – Check them out! We have featured two of their images in our mood board,  of the beautiful table setting and also the striped straws in bottles – BUT believe us when we say we wanted to feature about 20 images (the boss said we had to restrain  ourselves!) PS – They even hire out a vintage caravan!

The Rose Garden of Love

Posted on November 21, 2013 | 2 comments

The seed was sown for this theme (literally) after a discussion with a bride who was making a big feature of roses on her big day - bouquets and petals galore! We decided to take this one step further for our research and found ourselves venturing into a romantic rose garden of love.

Formal or rambling, soft colours or bold, this theme offered so many options and so many ways of interpreting it. We took the timeless beauty of the rose and supersized it for effect. Opting for a soft palette of colours that flowed into each aspect of the day perfectly.

The dress is a total knock out from Anna Schimmel and really was the hero for this theme. Intricately designed, and the absolute attention to detail in each and every rose petal ensured this theme would not disappoint.

We thought very hard about which shoe we would love to pair with this amazing dress and of course we are always so conscious of heel heights at Trousseau that we couldn’t just offer up one option so have given a flat, Halle, for the bride who is already beautifully tall and the same height as her fiancé, for a mid range shoe it was hard to go past the classic Magnolia, but for the girl who is looking for some height to carry off the stunning train it was hard not to match this look with the Bedazzle.

As soon as we saw how this dress worked with the shoes the penny dropped and we knew that a previous Trousseau bride, who had dyed her shoes apple green for her big day, had the perfect picture for us of a dyed shoe option and a beautiful bouquet of cream roses. Thanks Angela and Evan for sharing!

We fell in love with the picture and camera angle Chris Dillon from Dillon Photography, captured in his real wedding of the perfect rose stems.

Then when we came across the beautiful table setting and roses it was a bit of a chill up the spine moment, styling and hire products by Flower Factory, photo by Revent, it really captured the look and feel we were going for.

The car colour had to fit perfectly and we were so happy when a bride recommended we check out Funny French Cars in Wanaka.  Their wedding car image was by far and away the most perfect fit we could have hoped for.

What is a rose themed wedding without confetti right? Perfectly packaged little bundles for guests displayed in theme. Check out churchconfetti.co.nz – SUCH FUN!! (another great photo by www.dillon.co.nz)

AND have you ever seen a more beautiful cake? Gosh we were really taken by this one from Paula Jane Cakes, its understated beauty just screams quality and deliciousness (if only we could taste it too!) - of course the beautiful decorative roses made out of icing made it perfect for this theme.

Finally, the crowning glory was diamonds..and what girl doesn't LOVE diamonds? Well have we found the most exquisite ring...From the very talented Petra Bettjeman Jewellery, comes this custom made yellow gold and palladium diamond engagement ring.

Over the next month or two we will bring you a selection of our themed moodboards and discuss the journey involved with each. If you are looking for a bit of inspiration, then these will be a MUST see – they will feature beautiful dresses, cakes, flowers, styling – you name it!

PS Feel free to send through different suggestions on themes you would like to see and we will select a few to play around with.

A New Bride – The changing face of weddings!

Posted on September 04, 2013 | 1 comment

It has become very apparent there is a new bride in town, a new type of wedding ...and tradition –  some will take it, some will leave it. This is something that has been noticed by all, from photographers through to suit hire locations. It’s an exciting time for both the wedding industry and those getting married as it is one of the biggest changes seen in a long time!

Images courtesy of Etsy!

This new couple is a product of today’s society. Economically aware, technologically savvy, money conscious and wants their day to truly reflect who they (as a couple) are. A couple of key changes this couple has brought about is a rise in DIY weddings, non-traditional weddings and intimate weddings. For the bride, their wedding day is no less special than the brides from this time last year, it’s just a better fit for them.

These brides know what they want and work hard to ensure their day is absolutely perfect. Whether that be a candlelight evening affair in the bush perfectly planned thanks to images on pinterest and set up by mum, dad and the aunties, or a small (non-formal) gathering at their local winery with their immediate family...There are many variations and the only rule is, there are no rules! With this change in mindset, a follow on effect is seen in everything the bride and groom will do in preparation and when it comes to wedding shoes (our specialty) we are seeing a couple of key trends with this new bride.

Many brides are opting for a divine evening shoe, a gorgeous statement shoe that certainly does not scream wedding. A shoe that perhaps they would not normally have ‘treated’ themselves to, but feel comfortable indulging in (as it is their wedding after all). And it certainly needs to be a shoe their friends will be envious of! A couple of popular choices that are emerging are:

Images from our new season 2014 range

A good number of the non-traditional brides are opting for a contemporary styled wedding shoe that they are planning on dyeing either before or after the wedding . A couple of reasons for this: Firstly, why not – it’s their day and if that’s the shoe they like, then that’s what they will get. Also the longevity factor - as this type of shoe they are likely to wear again at other occasions.

We have also seen an increase in the Pinterest bride - These girls have planned everything to a tee (a non-traditional tee). They know what they like, know what they want, recognise good quality, and have researched everything about the shoes before they even set foot in our showroom . This bride will often add a bit of fun to their shoes that they have found throughout their research ie I do stickers etc, a floral brooch or feathers.

At the end of the day, and this is by no way saying that traditional weddings are no longer, they will always have a place. It’s just that having that ‘different’ wedding is starting to become the ‘norm’ and this is what is making the next generation of brides happy, and that’s what it is all about!
